Winter-Spring 2014 flight campaign finalizes

news

We recently finalised the 2014 winter-spring campaign of flights over Japan. We were able to perform 10 successful flights between February and April. Our engineer Roger Curcoll has already packaged all the instrumental equipment and transported them to NIES at Tsukuba University. The equipment will wait there until the next summer campaign. The samples obtained in these last 5 flights are coming to our Institute in Barcelona to be stored and as soon as possible, the filters will be sent for microbiological analysis.

End of winter flights in 2014

news

After some days of rain, bad weather, and eastern winds, we have finally found 4 consecutive days (5rth, 6th, 7th and 8th of April) for finishing this 2014 winter-spring campaign of flights. All these days we have flown under NW wind conditions, sampling from Downtown Tokyo at 1000m in North-West direction until arriving at Nagano prefacture at 3000m and then coming back South-East. Although some days we did not find the best conditions to fly (tubulences, clouds,..) the sampling was succesfull. We are really expecting that the analyses from these filters will help determining the etiological agent of the Kawasaki Disease.

news

First flight of the second part of 2014 flight campaign was done on 01/04/2014 with success.

Flight was done under NW wind conditions. We had some turbulences during the flight but they did not affect sampling.
Winter is leaving Japan and although mountains are still covered by snow there are already some green crops in lower areas.”
